Below
are a few shots of where we are with the basement project right now.
I finished wiring the entire thing with 12 outlets, cable, phone, and
speaker jacks. There is a dual light switch on the wall by the stairs
to control two separate light systems in the room and then one switch
near the area where we will have the bar so that we can put up special
lighting there too. We got started on the drywall the day after Christmas
and it took us about 3 days to get it all up. We just finished taping
and mudding yesterday and are going to put the second coat on soon.
I am working on boxing in the vents and I-beam so that the ceiling installation
will go a little easier. The trickiest parts of this so far were the
window areas and where we had to close off part of the stairwell. I
think it all turned out pretty well though. We still need to finish
the mudding and sanding, hang the door, figure out the ceiling, and
put in the carpet. It is coming along well though and I think we'll
have it finished in a reasonable amount of time.
Here
is a quick shot of the basement as I was framing the walls for drywall.
It is really hard to take pictures down there because of the limited light,
but I'll post more as I get further with this. I have all of the walls
framed out and will soon get started on the drywall and the bar.
Here
are the latest shots after sanding and primering. I'll think we'll paint
before the ceiling or carpet.
Here
are some pictures of after we installed the hung ceiling. We cut out our
own ceiling tiles out of drywall, saving us about 3 bucks a panel. It really
turned out nice though, without the cheap look of that textured stuff. Everything
went very well, and I think it is plenty bright down there. In fact, it
was so bright that we had to put dimmers on both sets of lights so that
we weren't blinded while watching TV.
Well,
here it is...about 95% complete. We laid the carpet two weekends ago, painted
the entire room, and put in the molding. Turned out pretty well. We set
up the new TV table that we got from IKEA and it works very nicely. We still
have to hang the door that separates the rest of the basement from this
room and plan on replacing the windows with glass block as soon as it gets
warm outside.
The
carpet is a neutral tan and brown. There was not enough light down there when
I took the picture to see the color very well.
Here
are the before pictures. Got to love the furniture that was left down there!
The T.V. now sits where the fake fireplace was before.
