I changed my mind about the single carb for now and am going to try and use a set of Zenith Stromberg side draft carburetors from a 2.0L Triumph TR7.  These carbs are really cool.  They work like a motorcycle carb with the slide in the center.  I measured them out to be about 44 mm.  The stock Solexes that I had only measured about 34 mm.  Because these carbs are side draft, the manifolds are going to be a little tricky, but I think they are doable.  I will probably cut down the stock steel manifolds and extend them so that they meet up with the carbs at the front of the motor.  I'll have to make some sort of adapter box out of sheet steel to mate up with the square ends of these carbs.
I finished up the stand by drilling and tapping the mounting holes.  Everything seems to fit perfectly.  I can even use a stock belt.  I was going to use a stock fan shroud because I didn't have a 36 hp doghouse, but it looks like it will be too long on the drivers side.  The generator/alternator stand sits more centered on this motor, so the fan shroud is also pushed towards the center.  This is a good thing because it more evenly distributes the air to the cylinders.  I will have to order a 36 hp doghouse shroud so that I will have enough room for the intake manifolds.
